Calgary Family Photography Sessions
Moments today, memories forever!
As a Calgary family photographer, I want to give you beautiful photographs of your family — along with a fun, stress-free experience everyone will actually enjoy.
Let me take care of everything for you. No need to worry about feeling awkward in front of the camera or nervous about how your kids will behave. I’m a mom of two, so relating to kids of all ages is my specialty. I’ll guide you through the session with poses and flow that never feel forced or awkward.
Just bring your smiles, be yourself and leave the rest to Pinar!
Family Session Info
Single Family Sessions
Single family sessions run about 45 minutes. I offer these either outdoors or in the studio — you’ll choose your location during online booking, whether that’s a Calgary park or the studio.
Outdoor sessions are kept relaxed and natural, with minimal posing or props. There are no rules here, just gentle guidance from me on where to go and what to do. Your job is simply to play and hang out with your kids. I’ll capture the love and connection in your family in a beautiful, artistic way, blending posed and candid shots along with any specific requests you have.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate, or you simply prefer a more formal session, studio sessions are a great alternative. I’ll help you pose in a way that reflects the mood or theme you’d like for your photos — with less focus on environment and more focus on you. I’ll listen closely to your ideas as I guide you through posing, for a relaxed session and beautiful results. Studio sessions work best for families of 4 or 5.
Every booking includes a pre-session phone consultation, where we’ll talk through location, timing, wardrobe, and your overall vision. Pets are always welcome too, as long as they’re trained and won’t interrupt the session — they’re part of the family, after all.
Big Family Sessions
When your extended family comes together, these sessions are for you. Big family sessions run up to 1.5 hours and work well for groups of 6 to 15 people. I offer these either at an outdoor park or an indoor venue of your choosing.
During these sessions, I can capture a variety of group combinations — the whole family, grandparents with grandchildren only, ladies only, or individual families and children on their own. Expect a mix of candid and posed shots throughout.
If you’d like a big family photo shoot including aunts, cousins, and grandparents, give me a call so we can make it happen.

Christmas Sessions In Calgary
It’s that time of the year again, and I am so excited for Christmas photo shoots. If you are wondering what your options in Calgary for a Christmas photo session are, let me tell you about our Christmas themed sessions at Alpina Photography.
Photo Shoot in the Snow
When the white snow covers the earth, everything looks purer, cleaner and dreamier. While it is actually snowing, probably most of you noticed that magical silence fills the air as if you are in Narnia! Not a few blocks away from Trans Canada highway. This is a…
Family Sessions FAQ
Where is the best place for family photos?
Most clients prefer Calgary’s beautiful parks in summer and fall — I usually shoot at Bowness, Edworthy, Confederation, or Riley Park. Some prefer their own home or yard instead. During the Christmas season, I typically shoot indoors, with my studio set up with festive props for kids and families.
What time of the day is recommended for outdoor family sessions?
For summer and fall sessions, the best light is within 2 hours before sunset. In winter, timing matters less since the sun stays low all day — but I’d still recommend booking before 3pm, depending on the month, so we’re not shooting in the dark.
What should I wear for the family session?
I recommend clothing that coordinates without matching perfectly. Pick 2-3 complementary colors, then add texture and layers where you can. Feel free to bring items with real meaning to your family too — a handmade outfit, a favorite blanket, or a beloved toy. Small details like these make your portraits feel even more personal.
What is the pre-session phone meeting about?
Before your session, I’ll call to talk through the details: indoor or outdoor, location, theme, style, props, and preferred colors and clothing.
What if it rains on our photo shoot day?
No problem — if the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll simply reschedule for the next available date.
Can we bring our pet to the family photo shoot?
Absolutely — your pet is part of the family. As long as they’re well-behaved and won’t disrupt the session, they’re welcome in the photos too.
Do you do outdoor family shoots during winter?
Yes, as long as it’s not too cold. Both snowy white and bare brown winter backdrops make for beautiful family sessions.
What can we expect after our session?
Within a week, you’ll receive a gallery of soft-edited images to choose from — both the ones included in your package and any extras you’d like to add. About a week after you make your selections, you’ll get your fully edited, high-resolution images in an online gallery, ready to download and share.
